Hieroptyc is a font produced by combining hieroglyphs and the Coptic language, considered dead “languages.” It was then presented through a zine. However, this mix of cultures made me realize that they were, in fact, not dead “languages” because hieroglyphs were one of the first forms of written communication that men came up with, which then the Coptic language derived from, and many more. Although the majority of people won’t be able to read my font because the letters are more inspired by Coptic, which Greek and Coptic people only know, my goal for the font was not to be understood and read by everyone but rather understood as a concept of giving life to civilizations that have disappeared or that find themselves a minority. I would like my font to be more considered as a piece of art that conveys a message rather than an alphabet that could be used in everyday life. I wanted to create a font that meant something special to me, and while doing so, I learned more about my heritage.
